NAPHL completes second event in San Jose

Monday was the final day of the NAPHL West Showcase at Sharks Ice in San Jose. Each 18U and 16U team played in one game in hopes of making one last impact on the standings.  The next NAPHL event will be for all 16 of the 18U teams and will take place in Romeoville, IL from November 8-10.  The next time the 16U teams take the ice against one another will be in Blaine, MN from December 6-9.  That event will also feature the 16U All-Star Game, which will be played on December 8th.

18U Division Update
In the first game of the morning, the Esmark Stars trip to San Jose was a beneficial one as they defeated Cleveland to finish the event with a perfect 5-0 record. Five different players scored including Tristan Ramage, who had three points and also David Polinski, Tanner Gilliland, Trevor Tisdale and Adam Alavi. Jason Fritsche had the lone goal for the Lumberjacks, who finished the San Jose event with an 0-4-1 record. In the second game, another one of the hot 18U teams in the NAPHL, the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, finished the final day with a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Firebirds. The Ducks finished the event with a 4-1 record. Riley Hummitsch, who is tied for the 18U scoring lead, finished with two assists and Elijiah Barriga had two goals. With the loss, the Firebirds finished the event with a 2-3 record. In the third game of the day, the Pikes Peak Miners edged the California Titans in a shootout, 4-3. With the win, the Miners finished with a 2-2-1 record in San Jose.  With the loss, the Titans finished with a very respectable 3-1-1 record. Titans forward Hunter Stanley is currently tied for the 18U scoring lead with 16 points and Miners defenseman David Dziezawiec currently leads his team in scoring with 11 points in 10 games.  In the final game of the event, the Pursuit of Excellence defeated the San Jose Jr. Sharks, 4-3 in a shootout. Williams Garrity scored twice for San Jose, who finished the event with a 2-2-1 record. POE also finished with a 2-2-1 record.  Tyler Barrett had two assists in the win and Zack Andrusiak scored the lone goal in the shootout.
 
16U Division Update
In the opening game of the morning, the California Titans defeated the Esmark Stars, 3-1. The Titans finished the event with a 3-1-1 record and were led by forward Cody Key, who had incredible 14 points at the event including the game-winning goal against the Stars.  Esmark finished the event with a 2-3 record.  Defenseman Carter Ekberg impressed scouts at the event and he leads the team in scoring with 10 points in 10 games. In the second game, the Pikes Peak Miners improved their record in San Jose to 3-1-1 with a 10-4 win over the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks.  The Jacks fell to 0-5 at the event. Pikes Peak poured 74 shots on goal in the win and got a hat-trick from Jaren Yatsu. Zach Zwierecki scored twice for the Jacks. In the third contest, the San Jose Jr. Sharks beat the Phoenix Firebirds, 12-0.  The host Sharks finished the event with a perfect 5-0 record, outscoring their opponents, 35-5. Phoenix finished the event with a 1-4 record. Jacob Acton made 11 saves in the shutout and Aidan Ward and Evan Pace had four-point games in the win. In the final game of the morning, Cole Booth scored twice and goaltenders Griffen Outhouse and Colton Lancaster combined for a 22-save shutout as Pursuit of Excellence defeated the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, 3-0. POE finished the event with a 2-3 record, while the Ducks suffered their first loss of the event, finishing with a 4-1 record.
