Pittsburgh takes over top spot in standings on Day 2

In a battle of the top two teams in the PHL's 18U standings, it was the Pittsburgh Viper Stars who topped the Lansing Capitals 4-3 in a shootout to take over the top spot in the standings with 21 points and a 10-1-1 record.  Heinz Koster recorded two assists and the shootout winner for Pittsburgh who sit one point ahead of Lansing atop the standings with one day remaining in the third PHL event of the season in Darien.

The other big winner on Saturday was the St. Louis Selects, who recorded back-to-back 3-0 shutouts on Saturday.  Goalies Bradley Amato and Zachary Jost posted the shutouts for the Selects.  Amato is 2nd in PHL 18U goaltending statistics.

Other big winners on the day included the Pikes Peak Miners, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes, San Jose Jr. Sharks and the Phoenix Firebirds, who got a hat-trick from Hector Majul.

Meanwhile, the Wenatchee Wild, California Titans and Detroit Falcons all went 1-1 on the day to keep pace.
