Des Moines 18U defenseman Horsager signs NAHL tender

November 10, 2020

The Des Moines Buccaneers AAA hockey club of the NAPHL are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Garrett Horsager has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Wichita Falls Warriors of the NAHL’s South Division.

Horsager, 18, is in his first season playing in the NAPHL for the Bucs. So far this season, the 6’0/170 lbs, left-handed defenseman from Rosemount, MN has recorded 12 points in 10 games played, assisting on 11 of his 12 points.

He was named the NAPHL’s Apex Learning 18U Defensive Peak Performer for the month of October. In six games, he recorded seven points, which included one goal and six assists.

“I decided to sign with the Warriors because my family and I felt it was a good fit for me with the coaching staff and the opportunity to continue to develop with them,” said Horsager.  He believes his puck moving style of play can help add to the Warriors defensive unit. “My playing style is a puck moving, defensive defenseman.  I will bring strong defense and consistency to the organization.”

With 11 assists in his first 10 games played this season, Horsager is off to a strong start with the Buccaneers.  “It’s been good in Des Moines.  It’s been a transition going from high school to AAA, but there’s a great group of guys there and it’s a great organization to be part of.”

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2021 NAHL Draft.
