Lansing 18U defenseman Counseller signs NAHL tender

January 13, 2015
The Lansing Capitals, proud members of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Alex Counseller has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Kenai Rover Brown Bears.

Counseller, 17, has been a long time player for the Capitals organization and his time spent playing in the NAPHL dates back to the 2011-12 season, where he competed in the league as a Bantam.

This season is the first year at the 18U level for the DeWitt, Michigan native. In 19 NAPHL games played to date, Counseller (6’1/185) has seven points, including one goal and six assists.

Last season, Counseller was a member of the Lansing Capitals 16U team that won the NAPHL Championship. He played in all five playoff games last season and had five points from the blueline during the regular season.

During the last event in Blaine, Counseller racked up three assists in the five games played as Lansing, who is in 6th place currently in the 18U Division, put together a very good 4-1 record.

Back on January 7th, Counseller was named as one of six defensemen that will compete for Team White at the inaugural 18U NAPHL All-Star Game, which will take place on Sunday, January 18th at the Troy Sports Center in Troy, MI.

Counseller is the fourth Lansing 18U or 16U player to sign an NAHL tender so far this season.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held in June of 2015.
