NAPHL completes first event of the season at NAHL Showcase

The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) completed its first event of the season as the final day of play wrapped up on Sunday at the NAHL Showcase.

 

It was another tremendous event all the way around. A total of 352 NHL, NCAA and junior scouts attended the event during the five days, which set a new NAHL Showcase record. Attendance from fans and parents was also up this season. 

 

One team stood out among the rest and it was the New Jersey Jr. Titans who went through the first event of the season undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record. New Jersey outscoring their opponents 33-6 during the event and also have one of the two scoring leaders after the first event in forward Anthony Cusanelli, who is tied for the scoring lead with 10 points. The Titans smallest margin of victory was three goals, which happened to be over one of the three teams tied for 2nd place in HC Dallas. HC Dallas looked good and scored the second most goals of the event. Forward Peter Hatton is tied for the 18U scoring lead with 10 points. HC Dallas finished with a 4-1 record as did the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and the Madison Capitols. Anaheim goalie Sean Lincoln is the league’s top goalie after one event after allowing just one goal in three games. The Esmark Stars sit at 3-1-1 and have the highest scoring defenseman in Carter Ekberg. Omaha and Lansing are next in the standings, both with a 3-2 record. Tied for 8th place is the Pursuit of Excellence and the West Michigan Hounds, both with a 2-2-1 record. At 2-3 is the Pikes Peak Miners and at 1-3-1 is the California Titans, San Jose Jr. Sharks and St. Louis Selects. Rounding out the 18U Division was the Arizona Bobcats and Bauer-Emerson Revolution at 1-4 and the Philadelphia Little Flyers, who finished 0-5.

 

 

Like the 18U Division, one team stood out from the rest in Blaine and it was the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, who finished the event with a perfect 5-0 record. The Jr. Ducks did it with both offense and defense as they lead the event in goals for (29) and goals against (3). Forward Justin Dixson was 2nd in scoring at the event with 11 points and included three game-winning goals. Goalie Alexander Frosh was perfect in two appearances, not allowing a goal. Three teams are tied for 2nd place with a 4-1 record including Omaha, Pursuit of Excellence and Arizona. Omaha’s lone loss was to Honeybaked from the HPHL, while Arizona lost to St. Louis and Pursuit of Excellence’s lone loss was to Omaha. St. Louis finished with a 3-2 record, followed by five teams who finished with a 2-3 record including Esmark, San Jose, Everett, Madison and Lansing. Pikes Peak is right behind them with a 1-3-1 record followed by West Michigan and New Jersey at 1-4 and rounding out the standings was California and HC Dallas, both at 0-5.
