San Jose 18U defenseman Galambos signs NAHL tender
February 5, 2014
The San Jose Jr. Sharks of the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) are pleased to announce that 18U defenseman Zakery Galambos, 16, has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Lone Star Brahmas. The Brahmas compete in the NAHL’s South Division.
Although he is just 16-years-old, Galambos (6’2/170) played this season for the Sharks 18U team. The native of Walnut Creek, California had a good first season at the 18U level with the Sharks.
He finished tops in team scoring for all defensemen with 15 points (4 goals, 11 assists) in 21 games played. His 15 points were good for finishing in the Top 10 in NAPHL 18U scoring for all defensemen.
Galambos’ best event of the season came at the NAPHL Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota in December when he recorded five points in five games. That included a season-high three points in a 4-1 win over Pursuit of Excellence back on December 7th.
Last season, Galambos played for San Jose’s 16U team where he recorded 11 points in 22 games played. For his NAPHL career, Galambos has played in 43 career NAPHL regular season games, totaling 26 points.
He is the third player from the San Jose 18U team to sign an NAHL tender this season, joining Ryan Meure (Kenai River) and Mick Nisbet (Coulee Region).
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NAPHL - plus or minus any trades - which become active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 3, 2014.
